There’s no better way to experience downtown Springfield than by foot.
Whether it is a guided tour or a self-guided tour, you will learn something new and see Springfield in a new light.
Downtown’s artisans shops host a free, free Shop Hop guided walk every Second Saturday during Farmers Market season (April – October).
DSI hosts a free Architectural Walking Tour on the first Wednesday of every month from May through October. Led by the knowledgeable and charming Anthony Rubano of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, this 1.5 hour guided walk gives you new insight into the historic buildings. Celebrate your new knowledge thanks to our complimentary reception hosted at the end of every Walk. Each Walk begins at the Lincoln Family Statue on the Old State Capitol Plaza at 5:30 pm.
“Abe & Mary: Quite Contrary” is a 1.5 mile, 60-minute tour by the staff at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum that will take you on a journey through time as we explore beautiful, historic, downtown Springfield. Along the way, you will hear about the people and places that helped Abraham and Mary’s relationship blossom, and on occasion, aspired to wedge them apart. Tours will run every Tuesday, June through August, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The guided tour is free but reservations are required.
Since 2005, Springfield Walks has presented award winning Walking Tours such as Lincoln’s Ghost Walk: Legends & Lore, and The Lincoln Experience. Tours can be scheduled for a minimum of eight adult participants.
