The Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) is a non-partisan organization founded in 1975 and based in Springfield that advances public policies that create healthy environments across Illinois.

IEC installed a major rooftop solar project at their headquarters in downtown Springfield in October 2019. The organization is planning to continue making sustainability renovations to their Springfield headquarters building, including rooftop vegetation and additional energy efficiency upgrades with the goal of becoming LEED Certified in the future.

In Illinois, the Treasurer’s office predates the state’s incorporation in 1818. Voters in 1848 chose to make it an elected office. Frerichs is the 74th person to serve in this role.
